What
is Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM?
Benefits
A Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM
session
Touch Balancing/Animal Bowen
TM
is the adaptation of the human Bowen Technique to the physiology and anatomy of
animals.
Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM,
as developed and taught by Carol Bennett, is endorsed by Bowtech and the Bowen
Academy of Australia, the recognized world authorities on Bowen. The Bowen
Technique was developed (for humans) in the 1950’s by the late Thomas Bowen of
Geelong, Australia.
"The Bowen Technique uses a series of gentle, manipulative
procedures which re-align the body, balancing and stimulating energy flows, and
thus empowering the body’s own resources to heal itself."
Bowtech Manual
Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM successes include
use in animals large and small, domesticated and wild; those in competition,
rehabilitation, or suffering from injury, abuse and/or disease; working animals
and loved companions. It is currently used in veterinary clinics in the
U.S. and Canada, as well as rehabilitation facilities, sanctuaries, and homes
across the U.S.
Touch Balancing/Animal Bowen
TM
is not diagnositic nor meant to be a replacement for veterinary care, but rather
as an adjunct to it.
Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM
is a hands on, hands off therapy and is a minimally invasive, highly relaxing and low stress therapy that compliments
conventional and alternative veterinary care.
Benefits
The purpose of
Touch Balancing/Animal Bowen
TM
is to relax inappropriate muscle tension which can be the cause of an animal’s
poor performance, or the beginning of a more serious health challenge, and to
facilitate balance of the body from a cellular level. Benefits
include:
- Improves general well being
- Relieves of muscle spasms
- Improves muscle tone, flexibility and range of motion
- Speeds rehabilitation from over-exertion, mental or
physical injury, and illness or surgery
- Balances the structural elements of the body which
improves posture, performance and stamina
- Restores balance to musculoskeletal, autonomic and
meridian systems
- Improves circulation, lymphatic and venous drainage,
elimination of toxins, and tissue metabolism
- Decreases inflammation
- Improves assimilation of nutrients
- Relieves signs of malaise, digestive problems,
allergies and skin conditions
- Calms anxiety, fear, aggression and defensive behavior
patterns which allows the body to transition from a "fight or
flight" state to one of calm and repair

While Touch Balancing/Animal Bowen
TM appears to help tremendously in
the areas of injury and disease, the affect it has in
improving negative emotional states and
behavior is without exception. One simple move can reverse mistrust and fear in
some animals; in others, it may take several full treatments to achieve the same
result. Usually within several moves the animal grasps that this is beneficial
to them and they relax into their treatments.

An Animal BowenTM
Session
During
a Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM
session,
Jill applies a carefully orchestrated series of gentle rolling
movements of connective tissue across the body. Wait periods between each series
of moves allows time for integration of the work by the body. Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM stimulates a sense
of deep relaxation which acts upon the body's autonomic nervous system creating
homeostasis at the cellular level and frees the animal's body to find its own
natural balance.
A session usually lasts half an hour to an hour. A series of three sessions,
scheduled at seven-day intervals (ideally), is suggested initially. Follow-up sessions
are determined upon
evaluation during the third visit. Many owners schedule maintenance sessions to
aid in prevention of disease and injury. Response to Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM
varies. The therapeutic effects are significantly enhanced when other factors of the horse's
lifestyle are brought into balance with its nature. For horses, this includes a natural approach to nutrition, hoof care, parasite control and turnout,
dentistry, as well as biomechanically correct saddle fit and rider balance.
Reminders for successful Touch Balancing/Animal BowenTM :
- Be punctual; have your horse ready
Schedule sessions well before or after feeding time
Resist the temptation to feed, pet, rub, or massage your horse during the
session Refrain from rubbing
and massaging your horse for a few days after the session Don’t
mix modalities. If in doubt, ask your practitioner
Be an
alert handler for your practitioner
Light walking and turnout is encouraged
after the session. A relaxed, stretching ride the following day is
ideal.
